In April when pandemic caused Diamond Comics to close shipments DC comics started Digital First initiative, which was the biggest digital comics launch to date. Seven weekly series, so every day there were new DC digital comics with famous artists and writers. At the beginning, they were reprints of stories from Walmart anthologies, then they started with original stories. Through 2020 some series were changed for another and at the end of year, all of them ended, as was also Injustice Year One digital series by Tom Taylor. But at the same time, they started a new series and at the very beginning of this year, another two. Also a few new digital series were announced. Challenge of the Super Sons
Newest addition to the Super Sons saga by Peter Tomasi
started on December 14th. It’s planned for 14 digital chapters collected in 7 printed issues, first of which is planned for April 13th. After the 7th chapter which will be released on Monday January 25th is a “season break” planned. No words when it will come back after
it.
The books is starting where Adventures of Super Sons ended.
Tomasi is omitting that Jon Kent was already aged and starts being member of
Legion of Superheroes. He is writing adventures from times when Jon was young,
full of energy and so he could be a partner of such a brat as Damian Wayne is.
Art by Max Raynor and Jorge Corona (issues 4 and 5) is very good, a little bit
childish, but no sweet.
Sensational Wonder Woman
Sensational Wonder Woman is a series launched because of
Diana ´s 80th Anniversary and of course, the movie Wonder Woman 1984. It is the
successor to Wonder Woman: Agent of Piece and Sensation Comics featuring Wonder
Woman. It's out of continuity, every two chapters collected in print issue and
then collected in printed collection. First two chapters were written by
Stephanie Phillips and illustrated by Meghan Hetrick. You can read review of
first issue here and second here.
Digital series started on January 6th, first printed issue
will be released on March 2nd.
Truth & Justice
The Next Batman: Second Son
For February DC exactly announced only one title in recent
days, but it is very possible that we will also have the Static Shock series.
It was announced at DC Fandome in august as part of Milestone relaunch, but no
details we have since - no release date, creators... . But it can be changed
quickly, Sensational Wonder Woman was announced with every detail 3 weeks
before start. And in this week's DC Universe Infinite announcement was a very
big part for Milestone comics so it is possible.
But this only one February series is a big one, even if it is
mini. It’s The Next Batman: Second Son by John Ridley. We know now that new
Batman in his stories in Future State: The Next Batman anthologies is Tim Fox,
but the digital first Second Son title has described his origin and family.
Every three chapters will be collected in 40-pages print issue, so we will have
12 digital chapters. Digital series is starting on February 23th, the first
print issue is scheduled for April 6th.

RWBY/Justice League
Both march announced titles are mini crossovers. First is with manga and anime series RWBY which will cross-over with nothing smaller than Justice League. It will be written by Marguerite Bennett and under artists you can find Emanuela Lupacchino. It will have 14 chapters printed in 7 issues. Digital series starts on March 9th, printed on April 27th. We are looking for a lot of massive action.
Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries
The last known DC digital series at time is another Batman crossover. He crossed with almost everything and DC is once again trying its most known Hanna-Barbera property. First digital chapter is out on March 27th, every two will be in printed issue - first released on April 13th. Second printed issue has to be on sale on May 11th with digital first-half on April 24th.

ReplyDeleteIn the first announcement: https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2020/11/24/do-you-doom-scroll-so-does-dcs-challenge-of-the-super-sons "There will be a season break in the middle of the publishing run."
