Mini Review: Represent! #3 (8/10)

DC Comics is treating Black History Month really seriously. Not only in a lot of Future State issues, in The Other History of DC Universe, but also in digital first comics. anti-racist issues of Thuth & Justice, origin of New Batman in Second Son, but mainly Represent! anthology are strong comic book additions to it. After brilant second issues by Jesse J. Holland we have next installment by Regine L. Sawyer, Afro American author known from few small press comic books, owner of one of small press and writer of one of recent stories in Death Metal tie-ins.

Sawyer presents a story of fulfilled dreams in all the steps - growing passion, education, self-learning and fulfilling in form which nobody dreamed before. She is highlighting the role of family in this, from first formative period to family support in final days of realisation. She has only 11 pages for it but the story is full and complex.

Story is illustrated by Eric Battle known from interior art in Aquaman, Green Lantern or Impulse issues. His style fits the realistic nature of the story and he is fully using a full page format in which is Represent! anthology released. One page is even composite from cards which are displaying parts of hero's career.

I like this anthology very much. Next chapter will be released next Monday.
