Mini Review: Represent! #2 (9/10)

After more than four months since the free first chapter, DC released another chapter of digital first anthology Represent!. It is centered at common people in their landscapes where their lives are often more interesting than most superheroes. And maybe due to a change of genre, this is for me the best this year’s DC digital chapter to date.

It seems to be an autobiographical story of writer Jesse J. Holland, known mainly as journalist and novelist. He is the central character of the story, which is placed at Holland’s farm in Missouri. At a fast pace, often one panel for a few years, we are seeing history of Afro-American family from the 1980s to these days, with little flashback to the post-Civil War era. And this pace is not bad, Holland knows how to document the most important moments in a family' s life.

I like very much also art from Doug Braithwaite (Green Arrow, Bloodshot, Punisher). His images are clean and realistic, you can feel the smell of American country farm, even for a Central European reader. You can enjoy his art more due to the format as this chapter is released in classic full page, not half-page tablet format (but then it has 13 pages only). This story gave him only one moment to present his action skills (mentioned post-War flashback), but it is drawn very well.

As I liked mentioned free first issue, I’ve already subscribed to the series. It has to be released every Monday till March 1st minimum.
